Modtones presents its eleven most popular stadium chant ringtones
Can you cheer me now?
Unlike most ringtone charts, sports fans keep 1980s rock music near and dear to their hearts and mobiles, with seven of the top eleven songs representing the era of teased hair and guitar riffs
San Francisco, April 27 - with the baseball, basketball, and hockey seasons heating up, Moderati's Modtones service announces the top stadium chant ringtones.
Picture this?the end of the game is moments away and your team has one last chance to win. Your eyes feel dry because you haven't blinked in several minutes. You turn slowly to exchange a knowing glance with the shirtless hairy guy in the cape. That's when it comes. Familiar notes pour out of the PA system, filling you with hope, and lighting that fire in your belly?or is it the nachos? You rise to your feet, along with the sea of people around you. People sing, people clap, people mouth lyrics that are most definitely not part of the song. Stadium anthems might not decide the outcomes of games, but they set the stage and capture the spirit of some of sports greatest moments.
From its coast-to-coast distribution network, Modtones has culled its 2005 download figures for the songs that are frequently played in stadiums. Without further ado, the country's most enjoyed stadium tunes are:
Most of the top tones are from the 1980s rock genre, with only one hip-hop tune making the cut. Many of these songs lyrics symbolize a game situation like Another one bites the dust. Others present the innocent youthful exuberance of middle America sports-lore like Jack and Diane, which paints the picture of high-school basketball. Kernkraft 400's Zombie Nation is the ubiquitous global chant song, which unites us Americans with our World Cup brethren across the globe and reminds us of when we heard it first played by a college buddy who came back from studying abroad in Europe with awkwardly dyed hair.
Whatever it is that makes these songs popular in the U.S., their staying power is significant. Only one song made after 1998 is on the list.
All songs are available for download from Modtones.com
