Introducing: Instagram Carousel

Here’s all you need to know about Instagram’s newest album-like feature.

Last February 22, Instagram launched its newest feature: the Carousel.

Instagram Carousel gives you the ability to share up to 10 photos or videos as a single “carousel” post. It’s like an album or gallery which is something Instagram users have been looking for.

Using Instagram Carousel

Here’s how to start using Instagram Carousel:

  1. Upload photos as you normally would in Instagram. You’ll see a new icon to select multiple photos and videos from your phone’s Gallery.
  2. Tap and hold photos to change their order.
  3. Apply a filter to all the photos at once, or edit each photo one by one.
  4. Compose your caption for your carousel.

Once posted, you’ll see blue dots that signify that there are more photos or videos to see in the post. Your friends can swipe back and forth to see the rest of the images in your newly posted carousel.

What’s In It for You?

One of the problems Instagram users experienced in earlier versions of the app is the lack of options to upload more than one photo in a single post. You had to upload each single photo you wish to post, resulting to newsfeed flooding, which is quite annoying.

With this update, users will no longer have to choose their single best “Instagrammable” photo or video. This is great news for everyone who wants to share a multitude of photos of their best memories through a single photo/video Carousel post. Instagram Carousel is also great in showing a step-by-step tutorial, sharing a mini photo story, for sellers, and for posting a carousel of product photos.

This is actually an improvement from the previous Instagram update that only allowed 5 images in the carousel. Now, you can post up to 10 images and videos! One of the limitations of this feature though is that it supports only the classic square Instagram format, but let’s wait and see.

To enjoy the Instagram Carousel, update your Instagram app to version 10.9 for iOS in the Apple App Store and for Android in Google Play.
