Singapore—One of the world’s biggest events for budding entrepreneurs, Startup Weekend, has invaded Singapore last January 20 to 22, 2017. The event was joined by 150 participants, including SkyRockIT’s founder, Ryan Li.
Startup Weekend 2017 took place at the Google Asia Pacific Headquarters in Mapletree Business City, Singapore. The event was led by volunteer community leaders and sponsored by Indoor Ag-Con, a group that specializes in events in the indoor agriculture industry.
The three-day event kicked off with a Pizza and Beer Party where participants were tasked to form teams and mingle with one another. For the days that followed, the teams brainstormed on business ideas and designed their would-be products.
Mentors and coaches, pooled from the most reputable startup businesses around the world, also provided guidance and tips to the respective teams. At the end of the 54-hour activity, each of the teams pitched in their business idea to the event judges.
Startup Weekend is a global event that is open to all technology-based entrepreneurs, whether you’ve been in the business for years or still starting up. The event aims to provide a venue for entrepreneurs to share, mentor, and network—the perfect place to learn about starting up and managing a business, and to bond with like-minded people who might be potential business partners.
Startup Weekend began in Singapore, boasting a reach of 1,140 cities and 480,000 entrepreneurs globally. The event has been the hub for many local startups and budding founders since its founding, and there have been many notable success stories stemming from the event. Among the well-known Startup Weekend “babies” is Carousell, an online marketplace for buying and selling new and secondhand goods.
